Cappuccino: Design studio marketing

cacioppo:

MARKETING

Most clients, when they hire a design studio, take the attitude that the studio is lucky to work with them, that they selected them from a plentiful pool of design companies bidding on their business. To many clients, design studios are, in a sense, interchangeable. So if you don’t…

The y-axis here is how venture capital returns have compared to the S&P 500. If you’ve invested in VC firms since 1999, I hope they’ve been good ones. ‘Cos overall, they’re nothing.

PSFK and Russell Davies on making a magazine:

PSFK:
What could we do to keep the paper interactive? For example, do we add QR codes to allow people to ‘see more’ (such as an accompanying video)?
RD:
Why make it interactive? The world’s not short of interactive things. Just make it good at what it is.
PSFK:
And how can me make it a social experience? What could we do to add a meta-layer above the printed page which allows likeminded readers to connect around content?
RD:
As above.

coketalk asked: Your unambiguous good is my necessary evil. It's a thin blue line, after all.

I’m perfectly fine with believing a bit of both, actually - it was the necessity of it to our modern day that I meant to highlight.

For greater specificity’s sake.

Dear Coquette: On fucking the police.

dearcoquette:

You keep bringing up the mantra fuck the police. I agree that the police can and do abuse their power and that reform should be an ongoing and continuous process. I also agree that the police are forced to enforce unjust laws that have led to an overcrowded and unsustainable prison system….

This a low point from coquette. State monopoly of legitimate coercive force is an unambiguous good. History is littered with proof, and you’re kidding yourself if you think reality differs at this point.

Don’t believe me? Look at 15th century Japan.

Send them to me and I’ll do it with whatever documentation you require.

I have the same job as Pete Campbell in Mad Men.
Sometimes I sleep in my office.
One of our clients is Five Hour Energy.
I have an endless supply of them.
The office challenge is to have all the flavors in one day.
(Not possible. Believe me. I’ve tried and failed many times (picture a toddler crashing after eating too much cake at a birthday party))
